Sad News About Tula

This is a post I never wanted to make.

Last Thursday, Tula passed away after her health declined rapidly. She had a form of mouth cancer, likely squamous cell carcinoma.

What we noticed first

Over the last 2–3 months, she started losing weight, even though her appetite stayed the same and actually increased. I suspected Cushing’s disease, so I added our Calming Chews as an alternative option.

What changed

In the last 2–3 weeks, her appetite suddenly dropped and she didn’t want to eat. After another physical exam, I found a mass under her tongue. I added CBD and our Cannabinoid Blend, which helped for a while, but over time it stopped making much of a difference. She became more and more uncomfortable, until it was simply too much.

Her final moments

Tula passed away in her favorite spot on the couch, with me, my wife Catherine, and Cassian beside her.

Our sweet Tula

Tula was almost 16 years old, and she stayed full of life right to the end. She still went on runs and loved playing with her stuffies.

She was with us for nearly 10 amazing years after we adopted her from friends who moved to Northern Canada and couldn’t bring her due to the cold weather. She fit into our family immediately—adjusted to living with a cat, became a little internet superstar, slept on my daughter Aliza’s bed, and became my personal shadow.

She loved exercise, treats, her toys, and the coziest napping spots. She had the sweetest quirks, and it’s hard to imagine life without her here.

So many people around the world loved her too—especially everyone who looked forward to “Tula Tuesday.”

Tula, we love you so much, and you will be deeply missed.

  1. I am so so sorry about Tula. I always looked forward to seeing her and Cassian. I know it will not be the same again. I know that these words won’t make it okay but I hope you find peace and comfort in knowing she’s home and running free. Just like those who have gone before her, everytime you think of her know she’s right there in your hearts.

  4. So sorry for your loss Dr. Jones. Sending lots of hugs and helpful healing vibes to help you through this sad time. But please know Tula maybe gone in physical form but not in spiritual form, she is always with you, always ?

  5. Dear Jones Family,
My heart really hurts for you all. No matter how long
you had Tula and your other pets, and no matter how
great of a life you shared with them, I know the pain
is so deep and so real. Healing will happen but it will
take a life time to stop hurting.

When I lost my dogs Cody Bear and Buttons who were
my emotional support dogs I ended up in the hospital
because I could not function without them. The trauma
of loosing them robbed me of my life.

I have healed now and I have Kali and Abigail who are the new lights
in my life. Even though it’s been years since loosing Cody Bear
and Buttons I still mourn their loses.

I pray Jesus will bring you a new family, that will bless you with
so much joy again and be the new lights of your life again.

  6. I know Tula had the best care a dog could have and all the love in the world. So sorry for the whole in your home and heart now. We all know that emptiness and silence left behind when loosing a pet. I will be sending you love and light to fill it.
