  3. Dr., I am using belladonna and tincture of licorice on my 80lbs pitbull. He has a collapsed trachea due to being kicked in the throat many yrs ago. This combination is the only thing we have found that will help with his gagging. He was getting exhausted from the constant coughing and gagging but the 2 homeopathic meds are working miracles! In a video you say to only use the licorice for 5 days. When can I start it back up? 5 days on then how many off?
Thank you for all you do,
    Kelly

  5. Hi Dr Jones
What would you recommend the dosage Dandelion Leaf( no alcohol) for my 12 lbs
dog who is having heart problem??

  6. Hi Dr. Jones,
Could you point me to a fresh food recipe for an epileptic dog. He is not on medication because his seizures vary in frequency…9 months, 3 months, 6 months, 1 month….not routine except that they always occur before a meal. My vet suggested spreading out his food, and that seems to help. We do not want to put him on the epilepsy drugs. We have been reading a lot about a keto diet for epilepsy, so was interested in your take on the issue. We listened to your podcast on cbd oil, and that is a possibility, but I think we really want to take control of his food. We watched your videos on what to include in a good recipe. Would you still recommend 1/3 protein, 1/3 carbs and 1/3 veggies or should we cut back on the cards and add good MCT fat source. Any info you can provide would be appreciated!!

    1. Hi Cheryl,

      Here is some more information:

First, Dr. Jones advises switching to a Keto or ‘Atkins’ diet. Studies have shown a link between diet and seizures in dogs. One human study showed a marked reduction in seizure activity with patients on the Atkins diet, and prior to anti-seizure medication, the keto diet was a common treatment for epilepsy. You can find information on Keto diets for dogs here:

      https://www.ketopetsanctuary.com

As part of the diet, he also advises giving MCT OIL – a diet rich in medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) can help to control seizures in dogs with idiopathic epilepsy. There is no standard MCT oil dose, but extrapolated from people it would be 1 teaspoon/10lbs twice daily. Start with 1/2 that amount as it can lead to diarrhea, and work your way up. Many adult (humans) are taking upwards of 4 tablespoons/twice per day.

Second, and this is perhaps the most important change, is to give Cannabidiol (CBD). Compelling research has shown that CBD may inhibit both seizure activity and the severity of such activity. Furthermore, studies indicate chronic use of CBD has not been shown to elicit negative side effects and does not induce tolerance.

For dosing, start at standard dose of 3mg/10lbs daily. You can safely double this if your dog is not responding, and increase again if needed. At higher doses CBD has shown to be very safe, some find doses up to 10mg per 10lbs daily is what is needed to help their pet. Please see the link below for Dr. Jones’ CBD.

Third, Dr. Jones advises giving additional magnesium. It can have a laxative effect at higher doses, so start slowly. For dosing, work up to the following (this is for magnesium citrate):

Pets up to 10 kg: 200mg per day
From 10 to 20 kg: 400mg per day
Over 20 kg: up to 800 mg per day

As a final suggestion, Dr. Jones advises giving Essential Fatty Acids as this may potentially decrease brain inflammation. He advises high doses to achieve therapeutic levels of EFAs, to 1000mg per 10lbs of body weight daily. He suggests using Krill oil as it has a higher % of anti-inflammatory EFA’s, and may better cross the blood brain barrier.

  8. Hi Dr. Jones,

I have a 15 Year old Female Miniature Pinscher name Chili. I rescue her 3 Yrs ago. She was suffering from Liver problem. My Holistic Vet did 4 session of Acupuncture, Chiropractic and Laser Therapy. Chili is also taking her medication for underactive thyroid. Her diet is Home cook Food (Organic Boiled Eggs (A little Yolk), Boiled Chicken (Mostly Organic), Organic Pumpkin Puree and Oatmeal. I found this recipe at this Ying Yang Nutrition for Dogs Book for Liver Support Diet that I start giving her 1 week ago too. Her Supplements are Goat Milk, Hepato Supprt, Animal Essentials Liver Defense. Her Treats are Goat Cheese and Boiled Chicken. She is much much better now. She gain a good weight and look happy. But this morning she threw up some white foamy liquid and I just want to know is there any Natural remedy for this. Thank you so much!

  9. Hi Dr. Jones,

A friend referred me to your you tube channel and I followed those links in your descriptions, to here. I need help. Suffice it to say I thought my cat had severely dislocated her Femur and Tibia and fibula bones. I took her to the vet to see if they would adjust it back in. This is the same vet’s office I had previously taken her to in December. At that visit, before they would treat her, they insisted the law was that she had to have an annual vaccine for rabies. Not odd to me at all. Since that visit was in December, I did not get to see the actual vaccine or site where it was injected.

So today, after 2 days of my kitty limping and in pain, I took her in. A different doctor, than the one in December, felt the leg and decided an xray was best to see the bones, and when he came back, I was told of a lump, that the leg bones were fine and in the right place, but that the hard lump was ___scientific words that end in coma________. He had aspirated it and found spindle cells and that a few of them were dividing. The treatments available were to do a proper biopsy (I said no, because that will automatically allow those cells into the bloodstream and guarantee the rapid spread). He was informative as possible mind you, but he did let me know what the progression of events will be if I do not come up with a plan of treatment, which the best one was to remove her leg.

My fury aside, I am going to fight this and help my kitty win, like I did with breast cancer. But I need your help. I have a radio show called Quantum Connections, the website my show is on is TFRLIVE.com I am asking you to come on my show to educate not only me, but also my listening audience. I have throughout my broadcasts helped people save their own lives. Not bragging about this. I have been contacted by many listeners telling me thanks for saving them/ their family member. Will you help me? 7pm EST Mondays and Wednesdays.

We do have a world wide audience and we are on other media channels as well, iHeart, Talkstream live, Tune In and etc. I would joyfully promote your you tube and website. Please help me save my kitty, or at least ease the suffering if she cannot be saved. Fear of the unknown is the greatest fear, and I aim to arm myself and the world with knowledge. Contact me via email.

  10. Dr. Jones I have an 11 year old Shepherd Lab, we adopted them as rescues as puppies, she and her brother. Her Brother died last march from rectal cancer. She has always been a drinker and for years I have asked if she were a diabetic but no. Just recently she came up with a small lump on her lower right side. Dr says it is a cancer most likely that dogs get when not neutered early, but she was neutered in the first year. She cannot be operated on as the doctor thinks she has Cushings disease, and she has thyroid issues. We opted to wait and do the 6 weeks of meds for the thyroid but by week 4 she was panting like she was having seasures, so we opted to take her off the med and redo blood work in two weeks, but it seemed she was having an allergic reaction as by 24 hours the panting stopped and she is fine. The deximethisone treatment makes no sense to me for 1 year and then what can we remove the cancer?
Will be asking my dr these questions but was an aide to Dr Glanzberg a homeopathic dr, who has retired. I just want alternatives she is good healthy and at 11 can jump 2 feet to sit in her favorite window.
If you have any suggestions, please help.
    Thank you
    Andrew Hanerfeld

  11. URGENT DUE TO HEMANGIOSARACOMA, ETC.–Missy, 12 yr old poodle/schnauzer,terrier mix we rescued from a shelter ate age 2. Had severe diarrhea, vet guessed “pancreatitis”, changed diet with homemade foods and did well. Since approx.12/20 Missy became somewhat lethargic, distant at times, seemed back leg bothersome, panting and developed moveable lump in axilla. March 2021 vet gave her shots and 7 days of pills for “arthritis”, never was concerned with other symptoms, nor drew blood. She got progressively worse in a short time now collapsing, shock symptoms, losing bowel and bladder controll, severe panting, heart racing, severe vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, not attentive, sleeping in strange areas. Now to vet post episode who gave intradermal fluid, advised ultrasound at another vet as blood work showed liver enzymes 6x’s higher than normal, low lymphocytes, hemoglobin 8.0, etc. Weight loss of 3 lbs.over short time. Very ill. Ultrasound showed mass in pancreas, heart murmur and suspected Cushing’s disease from the sypmtoms and blood work. Pancreas removed 6/2/21 with biopsy confirming HEMANGIOSARCOMA! Told to take her home and nothing more to be done. Now we are at a loss. No holistic vets here. Chemotherapy likely kill her faster? How can we save our brave friend? She is getting no treatment for her cancerm anemia and kidney problem, etc. Upon investigation we started Dandelion, Flaxseed oil, Fenbendezol and homemade food (liver, beef, chicken, vegetables). She is doing much better, but her time is very short. Please help as this is URGENT. Ayone with suggestions, experience? Poor girl went so long without vet taking this seriously.

  12. This is a correction to my correspondence 6/28/21regarding dog Missy–had SPLEEN REMOVED DUE TO MASS resulting in dx of HEMANGIOSARCOMA (incorrectly I stated pancreas removal).

  13. Missy, 12 yrs old poodle/terrier/schnauzer mix diagnosed by a referral vet who never saw her before with hemangiosarcoma, anemia, cushing’s disease and heart murmur (liver enzymes 6x’s higher than normal, hemoglobin 8.0 with no transfusion but after ultrasound underwent surgery in spite of all this. Spleen removed 6/2/21 and was told to take her home, no treatments, no diet plan, no further care “just love her till the end which is short” per the vet. After seeing your videos on Youtube the regimen on our own is the following: dandelion capsule 1/day, cbd 6 drops/day, flaxseed oil 1/2 tsp/day, fenbendezole (dewormer?)but don’t know how often-daily forever? and homemade meals of chicken, beef, liver, pumpkin, raw egg yolk (duck/chicken organic) and vegetables.

Now what? She has collapsing episodes, panting, ravenous appetite and has bursts of energy then not. Against chemotherapy (was not even suggested by vet) as that will, I feel, be fatal.

PLEASE HELP WITH HORRENDOUS CANCER THROUGHOUT HER LITTLE BODY. Should she have a blood profile done again post surgery? more ultrasound? or ? We, of course, will go great lengths to provid more time, quality care and life.
