Life Without Pets: A Quiet Year and a Surprising New Arrival

Life has been pretty quiet for me over the past year. As many of you know, we’ve had some tough losses. Our beloved dog Lewis, our cat Cleo, our cockatiel Gussy, our dog Jessie, and even our guinea pig Oreo have all passed away. They were all older pets, and in some cases, their deaths weren’t entirely unexpected. But it’s still a pretty crazy shift to go from a household with five animals to a household with zero. It’s just… so quiet.

A Day Without Pets

So, without pets around, what do I do all day? Well, for those who don’t know, I resigned from the College of Veterinarians about five years ago and have since been practicing as an online vet. I provide free information and advice to pet owners all around the world. In addition, I’ve written a book on natural pet health care and run a big YouTube channel.

In a way, it’s been fulfilling, especially working with Wellness Magazine. It’s a great resource for me, and I’m always grateful for the ideas they send my way for new YouTube videos. Sure, I’ve found myself getting a little lost in the world of cat videos online, but hey, it’s research, right?

The Importance of Having a Pet

Still, despite all the work, it’s just not the same without a pet in the house. I’ve often subscribed to the quote, “A home is not a home without a pet.” And sure enough, one day we got a little knock on the door, and you’ll never guess who arrived…

Tula: Our Unexpected New Family Member

Tula! Yes, that’s right—our new little dog! Tula is a wonderful dog, and many of you may have seen her in some of my other videos. She actually belonged to one of our neighbors, but they recently moved far up north to Canada and couldn’t take Tula with them. So, we ended up with a new dog!

Tula is quite the unique little mix. Her mom was a Shih Tzu and Border Collie cross, and when she was just six months old, she got out of the yard during her first heat. The father was a Standard Poodle. So, this little one is a mix of Shih Tzu, Border Collie, Corgi, and Poodle. Quite the combination, right? Almost like a specialty drink!

Tula’s Personality: Full of Love and Playfulness

Tula is an absolute joy. She loves affection, cuddling, and being by my side. She also enjoys her walks, and she’s great with the car ride. She’s just an awesome dog to have around the house. You can see how much she enjoys being part of our family!

  1. I love your new family member too! What an adorable little ragamuffin. I am so glad you have a new companion, watcher, and friend.

Doctor, I also only use complementary remedies for all of my animals (dog, cat, turkeys, chickens, ducks, and a baby boar that simply showed up here two years ago). Somewhere down the road, you may wish to investigate Miracle Mineral Supplement (aka MMS) (Jim Humble, developer) for terminal conditions, including cancer. It truly is miraculous as is the story behind it. Kim

  2. Dr Andrew!

  6. Dr Jones,

Yeah – truly ‘get’ that unexpected life stuff coming out of the blue – jolting us into the now. Well we only ever really have NOW, however we seem to be either in the future or the past and not often sitting right in today. Being grateful for all we have seems to ground us into the moment to remind us hey this is it – what to do today.

Your lovely new pooch looks a bit like my long deceased labradoodle who came into my life so unexpectedly years ago.Brought love, gentle joy, and happiness into my life. I had made a wish for one and she came within a couple of days via (free) notice in the local paper – in great health but needed a bit of socializing as she had been tied with another dog in area where the wild life had to be protected for most of two years. So we walked other with people, outdoor cafes were all so new to her and she blossomed. People always said what a beautiful dog – and she was. I miss her to this day.

Glad you are still around have a great time with her with your family.

Lots of love and cuddles to your new little sweety. And new family outings where she can be adored.

    Pauline

We here in FL just went thru another Hurricane and I don’t know what I would of done with my guy “Chauncy”. It was just him and I together bracing the storm. I knew I had to be fearless for Chauncy and I was. We had no major damage, few trees but we were both brave for each other. I count my blessing that I have him
