Warts in Humans and Pets

Warts are quite common, especially in animals like our dogs. Just like humans, dogs can develop warts, which are usually caused by a virus called papillomavirus. In most cases, these warts appear in young dogs, particularly puppies, and tend to disappear on their own over time. However, this isn’t always the case.

As a veterinarian, I often tell pet owners to simply wait and watch, as many warts will resolve without treatment. There are also medical options like cryotherapy, where liquid nitrogen is used to freeze the wart, or surgical removal. But what if there’s a simpler, natural way to treat warts?

Garlic: The Natural Antiviral Solution

Garlic has been studied for its antiviral properties, and surprisingly, it has shown promise in treating warts. A study conducted in 2014 found that 96% of the participants experienced the disappearance of warts after applying garlic extract topically. Given that most warts are caused by viruses, garlic’s antiviral properties make sense as a potential remedy.

My Personal Experiment: Testing Garlic on Plantar Warts

Since the studies are so promising, I decided to become my own guinea pig and try garlic extract for my own warts. I have a few plantar warts — the ones that appear on the bottom of the feet. Here’s what they look like. You can see the small black lesions and some swelling around them.

For my experiment, I’m using concentrated garlic capsules, each containing 500 milligrams of garlic, which is the equivalent of about eight cloves of garlic. This garlic is in flaxseed oil, which makes it the perfect consistency for application — more like a paste.

Applying Garlic Extract to My Warts

To get started, I’ll open one of these capsules and apply the garlic extract directly to the warts. I plan to do this twice a day for the next four weeks, and I’ll update you on the progress. The amount I’ll be using is quite small — maybe a 50th of the capsule, which means one capsule will last me a week or more.

I’ve tried cryotherapy for these warts before, but it didn’t work for me, so I’m really hoping that this garlic treatment will have a positive effect.

A Holistic Solution for Your Dog’s Warts

If your dog is suffering from warts, and you’re looking for a holistic solution, I highly recommend trying garlic extract. It may not work for everyone, but given the promising studies and my own experience, it’s certainly worth a try.

I’ll keep you all updated on how this garlic treatment works for me. Thanks for watching, and I look forward to sharing more with you soon.

  1. Did this treatment (garlic extract work or help?
Any info you can offer of what worked on your pet, please post.
    Thanks.

      1. How did you use the garlic? Did you put it into the food or did you rub it on the dog? My dog is covered in them and licks and bites the ones he can reach.
I’ll be very grateful for your help.

        Fran
