Inside Dr. Andrew Jones’ Year — Family, Health, and Inspiration
A Holiday Reflection: Gratitude, Growth, and Looking Ahead
On this day before the holiday, with friends and family around and life slowing down a little, I find it’s a great time to reflect.
How Am I Feeling Right Now?
Mostly grateful.
I have a healed collarbone fracture, a healed Achilles tendon tear, and I just had my tooth fixed. Am I a lemon? Maybe. But overall, I’m feeling pretty good.

This year I ran a long 50K trail run up and down steep mountains. It took 7.5 hours. I’m now training for the Vancouver Marathon in May 2026, which means a lot of running continues.
We currently have some snow, a holiday tree, plenty of food, great friends and neighbors, and a warm house to stay in.
All things considered, I feel pretty thankful.
Tula the Wonder Dog
Tula is doing well.
Her hearing has changed. Her eyesight is not what it once was. Her back legs are weaker. But she is 15 and a half years old and still doing great.

She ran six miles yesterday and is still ahead of me at her age. That likely has something to do with all those supplements she takes.
Tula had liver disease in the past, but her most recent blood work showed nearly normal liver enzymes. That alone makes me incredibly grateful.
Welcoming a New Cat Into Our Home
We adopted a new cat.
Last year I said I was looking for an adult, calm cat who wanted to stay indoors, avoid wild critters, get endlessly spoiled with treats, and appear in a few videos each week.

Cassian is all that and more.
He loves food, filming, and staying inside. He sleeps all night curled up next to us and seems genuinely happy. He is an awesome cat.
Family and Home Life
My immediate family is doing well. We are healthy, and the young adults, formerly children, seem to be figuring things out.

Michael is on Vancouver Island. My younger brother Ian is in Horsefly. Everyone is doing well, and that means a lot.

Veterinary Secrets and Our Growing Community
Our business, Veterinary Secrets, has grown immensely, thanks to supportive clients and subscribers like you.
I was honestly surprised by how many people recognized me at the Pet Products Trade Show in Las Vegas at SuperZoo. It turns out many people watch our videos on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and hopefully again on Facebook after the hack.
Our Team and Family Business
We now have a wonderful team and truly operate as a family business.

Michael, my much younger brother, his son Fraser who is starting soon, and my daughter Aliza are all part of this journey.
Our star team includes Christine, Cole, Dan, Jan, Allan, and Iven.

We are incredibly fortunate to have them, and I’m probably not grateful enough.
Challenges Along the Way
Our growth has not come without challenges.
In September, our Facebook page with 528,000 followers was hacked, and we lost every single follower. After weeks of customer support, we got the page back, but the followers were gone.

During that time, I reached out to Rodney Habib, author of The Forever Dog. He was beyond supportive and tried to help us recover the page. I later did a livestream interview with Rodney and Dr. Karen Becker, and it was great connecting with colleagues who truly support one another.
Dealing With Criticism
Then my so called friend, the Skept Vet, published some less than kind things about me.
He wrote an extensive article attacking me and later updated it, grouping me with other so called “quack” vets, including the highly respected Dr. Jean Dodds.
Some of what he wrote included claims that losing my license did nothing to deter me from selling “bogus secrets” and that I have a thriving career selling nonsense.
After sharing this in our newsletter and on social media, hundreds of pet parents sent messages of support. That meant more than I can say.
Keeping Perspective
In the grand scheme of things, most people are good, especially pet people.
It’s important for me to keep that perspective when challenging things happen.

I never imagined that after resigning from the College of Veterinarians we would grow into a large online pet health and wellness company, positively impacting so many pets and people by sharing home remedies for dogs and cats.
For that, I am deeply grateful.
