Natural Pain Relief and Oral Care for Pets with Bee Glue and CBD

It’s happened before, right? You see your dog happily chewing on a rock or crunching into a bone, and suddenly, you notice something odd. Maybe your cat starts drooling and refuses to chew on one side of their mouth. These are clear signs that something’s not quite right—could it be a cracked or damaged tooth? I’ve been there myself—flossing my teeth when part of my tooth just fell out. Ouch!

Dental pain can be as painful for your pet as it is for you. In fact, it’s one of those issues that can affect their ability to eat properly and cause them quite a bit of discomfort. So, what should you do about it? The first thing to consider is pain relief. But, just as important as the relief is ensuring it’s safe for your dog or cat.

Dental Pain in Dogs and Cats: The Signs to Watch For

If your dog chews on hard objects like rocks or bones, or your cat starts avoiding kibble and drools more than usual, it could mean their teeth are hurting. Cracked teeth or dental issues can be very painful, and just like us, pets need relief when they’re in pain.

But here’s the thing: you want to be sure that whatever solution you use is gentle and effective for your pet. Some medications or treatments can cause more harm than good, so it’s crucial to opt for natural and safe alternatives.

Bee Glue for Dogs and Cats: A Natural Remedy for Pain Relief and Oral Health

A while ago, I lost part of my tooth. I was looking for something that would help with the pain and also prevent any infections from setting in. That’s when I turned to Propolis, also known as Bee Glue. It’s a resinous, waxy substance that bees create by mixing their saliva with beeswax and compounds from various plants and trees. Propolis is packed with antimicrobial properties, which may help protect the bees from pathogens—and it turns out, it can be pretty helpful for us, too.

Tooth Pain in Pets: It’s More Common Than You Think

Just like us, our dogs and cats can experience tooth pain. The main difference is that they don’t really get cavities the way we do. In our pets, it’s more common to see gingivitis, gum recession, or even abscesses. Regardless of the cause, tooth pain is uncomfortable and can cause our pets to act out of character. You might notice that they have difficulty chewing, or you may even spot a swollen, red area around a tooth.

Thankfully, there are some natural remedies you can try at home to help ease your pet’s discomfort.

Natural Remedies for Tooth Pain in Pets

Here are a few home remedies I recommend to help soothe your pet’s tooth pain and promote healing.

1. Cloves

Cloves have long been a favorite home remedy for tooth pain because they have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, and anesthetic properties. You can either buy clove oil or grind a couple of cloves and mix them with olive oil. Dab a cotton ball in the oil mixture and gently apply it to the sore area.

2. Garlic

Garlic isn’t just for cooking; it’s also a great natural remedy for tooth pain. Garlic is antibacterial and can help with gum infections as well. Crush a garlic clove, mix it with olive oil, wait for about 15 minutes, and then apply it to the affected area with a cotton swab.

3. Herbal Tincture

An herbal tincture made from Oregon Grape, Goldenseal, and Myrrh can be a great option to soothe your pet’s gums. Just apply it liberally with a cotton swab.

4. Healing Lotion

Calendula lotion is perfect for healing ulcers in the mouth and promoting the healing of damaged tissue. It’s a gentle remedy that can make a big difference for pets suffering from sore gums or wounds inside their mouths.

5. Chamomilla

If you have a puppy or kitten going through the teething process, Chamomilla can help reduce their chewing behavior and alleviate some of the pain associated with teething.

6. Myrrh

Myrrh is another useful remedy for gum inflammation. You can mix it with water and apply it topically to inflamed gum tissue to help reduce swelling.

7. Homeopathic Arnica

For acute pain or injuries to the mouth or teeth, Arnica is a great choice. I’ve even used it myself for a tooth root abscess! I recommend a dose of 30C, four times daily.

8. Propolis (Bee Glue)

Propolis is a fantastic natural remedy for both pain relief and antibacterial properties. It’s a great topical treatment that helps soothe sore gums and teeth. Propolis has also been shown to prevent the formation of calcium phosphate, which is the main component of dental plaque. It’s also great for keeping your pet’s mouth clean. In fact, a 2015 review found that propolis significantly decreased the amount of bacteria in the saliva of people with periodontitis.

9. Cannabinoids (CBD, CBG, CBN, CBC)

CBD is well-known for its pain-relieving properties, but it turns out that other cannabinoids like CBG, CBN, and CBC may provide even better pain control for dental pain. These can be rubbed directly onto the affected area for local and systemic pain relief.
