5 Steps to Naturally Prevent and Treat Common Cat Diseases

Happy National Adopt a Cat Month: Keeping Your New Feline Friend Healthy

Happy National Adopt a Cat Month! I’m excited to share that we recently welcomed a new member to the family—Cassian, our awesome tabby. He’s quickly become a cherished part of our home, and as a pet parent, I’m doing everything I can to make sure he stays healthy and happy for years to come.

Simple Steps to Keep Your Cat Healthy

Taking care of a cat involves more than just love and attention. There are a few easy things you can do right now to prevent disease and keep your furry friend in top shape.

Joint Health and Disease Prevention

One of the first things I focus on is joint health. If your cat’s getting older or has a more active lifestyle, supplements containing Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM are key. These ingredients help with joint pain and can even prevent recurring Urinary Tract Disease (UTD)—something I know many cat owners worry about.

Supporting Overall Health with Supplements

In addition to joint health, a good cat supplement can support multiple aspects of your cat’s well-being. The right formula can help protect your cat’s kidneys, boost its immune system, and promote better gut health. It’s an easy way to ensure your pet is getting all the nutrients it needs.

Why Dr. Jones’ Ultimate Feline Health Formula

One supplement I trust for Cassian—and that I recommend to all cat owners—is Dr. Jones’ Ultimate Feline Health Formula. It’s packed with all the essential ingredients your cat needs to stay healthy, from joint support to immune system and gut health.

Taking these simple steps today can go a long way toward preventing health issues down the road. If you’re a cat parent, I highly recommend getting on board with a supplement that supports your cat’s full-body health. It’s an investment in their long-term well-being!

Dr. Jones’ Ultimate Feline Health Formula is a complete, all-natural supplement designed to enhance your cat’s overall health, and help ensure graceful aging for your cat.

Ensuring your feline stays healthy and happy is your top priority. Fortunately, many common health issues can be prevented with a little proactive care. From diet to stress reduction, there are simple steps we can take to ensure our cats live their best lives. Here are my top five tips to keep your cat in peak health!

1. Upgrade Their Diet

Your cat’s diet is one of the most important factors in their long-term health. Unfortunately, many commercial dry foods are high in carbs and low in moisture, which can contribute to issues like diabetes, kidney disease, and urinary tract infections.

Better Nutrition for Your Cat:

  • Choose a high-protein, moisture-rich diet, like quality canned food or a home-prepared raw diet.

  • Avoid fish-based foods—they’re often high in phosphorus, which can stress your cat’s kidneys.

  • Make sure your cat always has access to fresh water. A water fountain can encourage better hydration!

2. Be Smart About Vaccines

Vaccines are important, but over-vaccination, especially in adult cats, can be harmful. Excessive vaccines have been linked to kidney disease and, in some cases, even cancer.

Dr. Jones’ Advice:

  • Give FVRCP vaccines at 8 and 12 weeks.

  • Administer the rabies vaccine at 6 months—only if required.

  • For cats over 1 year old, I believe no further vaccines are necessary, especially for indoor-only cats.

  • Instead of annual boosters, focus on supporting your cat’s immune system with a nutritious diet and supplements like colostrum.

3. Choose Natural Remedies Over Harsh Medications

Many conventional medications, particularly NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) and flea/tick insecticides, come with serious side effects like kidney and liver damage.

Safer Alternatives:

  • For pain relief, try CBD oil. It’s a natural option that supports joint health without the risks of traditional painkillers like Metacam.

  • For flea prevention, diatomaceous earth is a great natural powder that dehydrates fleas without exposing your cat to harmful chemicals.

4. Reduce Stress and Enrich Their Environment

Stress can weaken your cat’s immune system, contributing to urinary tract issues, digestive problems, and even behavioral issues. Creating a stimulating and comfortable environment will help keep your cat happy.

Simple Ways to Reduce Stress:

  • Offer engaging toys and regular playtime.

  • Provide scratching posts and climbing areas to keep them active.

  • Set up a quiet retreat with cozy bedding where they can relax.

5. Prevent Disease Before It Starts

Prevention is the best way to keep your cat healthy. Kidney disease, for example, affects 30% of cats over the age of 15, and diet plays a huge role in its development.

Proactive Tips:

  • Avoid fish-based foods, which are high in phosphorus and can harm kidney health.

  • Add calcium carbonate (ground eggshell) to bind phosphorus and support kidney function.

  • My Ultimate Feline Health Formula is designed to support overall feline health, including kidney function, with no added phosphorus and beneficial calcium.

P.S. If you’re considering getting a cat (and I think it’s a great idea!), I suggest adopting from an animal shelter or rescue society. Many wonderful cats out there just need the right home to thrive. For instance, my cat Cassian was returned to the shelter because he didn’t get along with the other cat in his first home. But once he was here, all he wanted was love and food!

P.P.S. Don’t forget, my Ultimate Feline Health Formula can help support your cat’s kidney and joint health with added antioxidants, lower phosphorus levels, and glucosamine for joint and urinary health.
