The following story rings true for me..

As a veterinary student we had live animals in labs which were subsequently euthanized.

There was NO NEED.

In fact I don’t remember ANYTHING that I learned form the lab, except that why were we unnecessarily killing healthy dogs?

Here is the story I am talking about..

Med school, physician group argue merit of using live animals in labs

MILWAUKEE The Wisconsin Humane Society and a group called Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is protesting the use of live dogs at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The Milwaukee school uses about 60 dogs _ usually beagles _ in a class for first-year students.

After a dog is anesthetized, students study its circulatory system.

And, the dog is later euthanized.

The Humane Society and Physicians Committee say students can learn just as well from computer models and simulators.

Medical College spokesman Dick Katschke says use of live animals provides a learning opportunity that can’t be matched.

He says the school is considering switching to pigs instead of dogs.

But Jeff Rusinow of the Wisconsin Humane Society says it doesn’t make sense for 60 dogs to die when there are teaching alternatives.

As a veterinarian, I learned by doing..

I became competent and skilled once I started working in practice.

The Live Animal Lab was of NO value.

I completely agree with the Wisconsin Humane Society..It makes no sense for dogs to die as there are much more effective methods of teaching the same thing.

You would think that we as a society would stop this practice.

  1. Crap! Grain is used to fatten lovestick for slaughter. Even wild vegetarians do not have access to huge quanities of grain. Obesity, diabetes, dental, heart urinary disease, allergies and cancer are on the increase. A real food diet promotes health and longevity. Pet food, including vet recommended science diet has been recalled many times, but yet still pushed by vets as a health food. There are few regulations and balance is a made up term to scare people.
