Trent Pictures

Trent, the most recent member of my pet family, has been missing for over 2 weeks- it doesn’t look like he’s coming back.
I have since talked to more neighbors who have all had cats go missing- so they either have indoor cats, or no cats at all.
I have posted a few pictures of Trent – we’ll be having some type of memorial for him this weekend.
He’s very cute and loved to ham it up on camera.

I am very sorry to hear about your cat Trent going missing. He was a beautiful cat that seems very fun loving. It seems to be best in your area to only have an indoor cat. I have one and afraid to let her out as we have wildlife around here too.
We’ve definitely learned that keeping cats indoors is often the safest choice, especially when there’s wildlife around. Give your kitty an extra cuddle from us!
I had a cat go missing as well. His name was Freeway (he was actually saved off a freeway in California a long time ago). It is kinda sad to not to know for sure what happened. Freeway was old and becoming very skinny. He never usually strayed far beyond the house. I guess we just have to cherish every minute we get with our pets because we never know what may happen at anytime. And try not to yell at them too much, after all cats will be cats (as dogs will be dogs). I am very sorry for your loss. But I know there is a pet heaven where they all go and get to play fetch and have delicious food, have lots of friends and just a great time up there.
We’re so sorry you never got to know what happened. Cats have a way of doing things on their own terms, don’t they? Your reminder is spot on. Cherish the time we have with them, give a little less yelling, and a lot more love. They really do leave paw prints on our hearts.
I am so sorry for your loss of little Trent…he’s VERY cute.
My sister lives in the boondocks of Minnesota and her very beloved Maine Coon Cat, Cody went missing years ago. She still feels the pain. I would always tell her NOT TO LET HER CATS OUT! But she never listened, thus she lost Cody. Now she has acquired more kitties and they live happily ever after inside.
People who see this. If you have cats DO NOT LET THEM RUN FREE it’s just too dangerous whether in the city or out in the country. I have 13 rescues all of them born feral. One adult male even lived outside for 5 full years; he made the transition seamlessly and now lives, very spoiled and very happily, indoors with us. I NEVER LET THEM OUTSIDE, EVER!!!!!
If you feel you MUST let them out, build them an outdoor shelter…trust me when I tell you, if you lose even one beloved cat you will change your cat husbandry practices, like my sister.
When cats stay in…you have peace of mind and there’s NOTHING better than that.
You’re absolutely right, there are so many dangers for cats outdoors. Keeping them safely indoors, or giving them a secure outdoor space like a catio, can give them the best of both worlds. Your 13 rescues sound very lucky to have you!
Don’t give up on Trent yet, Dr. Jones. Let your love be a beacon for him. Corny, I know, but it has worked for othes as well as myself.

Hi Andrew… I just wanted to say what a gorgeous kitty Trent was, and that I’m truly very very sorry for your families loss. It’s so hard to lose a beloved pet, but even harder when they go missing like that, because there isn’t the closure there that you need to let them go. My heart goes out to your family this weekend as you memorialize him, and I pray that Trent is happy as a clam in heaven, eating as much catnip as he can, chasing as many birds as he can. May he have peace.
Trent was truly a special boy, and we miss him dearly. We hope he’s somewhere peaceful, happy as a clam, with plenty of catnip and birds to chase.

Hope there is not some crazy bloke around like the one that was caught in Miami lately…

I thought i would tell you that your cat trent looks just like the cat that comes to my mothers house all the time although lots of cats come here don;t know for sure but its possible.
Trent was quite the handsome character, so we’d love to think he may have found a friendly place to visit. Give that kitty an extra pat from us!

It’s always unbearably painful to lose a special pet, but it is especially tough to not know what happened.

I have this struggle with cats as well. I used to have 5 barn cats and although they were all spayed/neutered and vaccinated, they became infected with the feline aids spread by feral cats that would come onto my farm. I eventually lost them all to this terrible disease. I now have 2 house cats that I take outside for a romp everyday but only when I can be with them to watch them and bring them back inside. That may seem like a lot of trouble but it is worth it for their safety. I am sorry that Trent has gone. I know you miss him.
We’re so sorry you had to go through losing all five. You’re absolutely right that supervised outdoor time can be a great way to give cats some adventure while keeping them safer. Trent was deeply loved too, and we still miss that little guy.

Trent was definitely a handsome little guy, and yes, he loved that stroller! We still miss him and hope wherever he wandered, he was safe and well cared for.
I am also so sorry about Trent. Maybe he will come back, though. Cats can do surprising things sometimes. Our prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. Trent looks just like my Sandy cat that lived 29 years – I love an orange cat!
Sandy living to 29 is amazing! Orange cats really do have a special way of stealing our hearts. We’re still hoping Trent surprises us and comes home.
Sorry to hear that Trent has not returned home. One of my cats disppeared the same way. The agony of the loss combined with the hope that she might return home was awful.

We know that heartache all too well. Trent was deeply loved, and we still hold onto the hope that he may find his way home. Sending love to you and your family too.
Trent looks like a very special orange tabby – especially in that stroller! I know 2 weeks is a long time, but he may yet return. Once I tramped thru the woods around my home, calling and calling for my missing calico, and the next morning she had dragged herself home. She was very sick and had gone off to die, but after a week at the vet – well, she lived another 8 years!
Don’t give up hope yet………
Cats have an amazing way of surprising us, and we’re hoping this orange boy has one more adventure left in him. Thank you for sharing this and for the reminder to keep believing!

What a Handsome Orange boy Trent is!!! Orange Kitties are the Best Kitties in the world-LOL.
I say “IS’ because you don’t know for sure that
Trent has crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge yet.
It just might be that he’s hiding somewhere or
he’s hanging out someplace else. A cat that I had
several years ago (she was born to a feral mom
and was 4 mos before she rescued) somehow got
outside and was gone for days, or so I thought…
A friend of mine came over to help me look for
her and happened to look in a window well on the
side of the house that had been covered over with
boards. There she was, crouched in the corner of
the window well!!! She must have been there the
whole time, poor girl! It’s a good thing we found
her when we did because she had a liver shunt
and she needed medicine.
Don’t give up hope yet…Hopefully Trent will find his way back home.
Cats are incredibly good at finding unexpected hiding spots, so a thorough search of nearby areas is always worth doing. We’re hoping Trent is out there somewhere and finds his way home.
Hello Dr. Jones – I just wanted to tell you how sorry I am to hear about your cat Trent gone missing. He is an adorable cat with such beautiful eyes and coat, he looks like he was quite a character! I love the picture of him in the stroller, that is really funny and cute! And the close up one that shows how pretty he is. Hopefully we’ll hear that he has returned to you sooner than later, safe and sound, but understand it is hard to go one each day without any closure. Keep your chin up, it is never easy to lose a beloved pet and know that you are not alone and have many supporters to lean on! Take care.

Hello, Sorry to hear about your pretty kitty. I used to have one like that. I raised him from a kitten. He was part bob cat I think. I name him muffin. I don’t know how i come up with that name.

Muffin sounds like he was quite the character. We’re hoping this sweet kitty finds his way home soon. Cats can be little adventurers, so we’re keeping our paws crossed!
My daughter had a cat go missing and it was found a few streets away 18 months later. Zoe had a name tag and Telecom gave the people whose place it was around the phone no. on tag. A dog had chased it away and we think it got under a bus which stopped outside home to get away from the dog and got taken away that way.
Cats are surprisingly resourceful and can travel farther than we ever expect. Zoe clearly had quite the adventure and was lucky to be found again after 18 months. A name tag definitely made all the difference too!

Sorry Trent has gone missing. I do have hope for you. I had a Siamese cat that went missing, I never let her out ever. None the less, she went missing. We were living in an apartment at the time in a very busy area. One year later, I looked out of my living room window, there she was just standing there under the lamp post. She did get herself pregneant in her adventures but she came home.
I know hope is fading, but don’t be surprised if he does come back. Stranger things have been known to happen.
We never know what adventures our cats get themselves into. Trent was very loved, and your story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes they can surprise us when we least expect it. We’ll keep a little hope alive for Trent!

Trent was quite the handsome character and definitely knew how to work the camera! We’re still hoping he found his own little adventure and is safe somewhere.
Trent is a beautiful cat. We have a hugh tabby cat who is orange, black and brown. She goes out in our fenced back yard sometimes during the day. But we don’t let her out when evening approches. I know it has been 2 weeks, but I hope he comes home. We had that happen with a cat we had years ago.

Trent looks very beautiful. In the 1980’s I used to have a yellow cat that looked the same and his name was Stanley. I had him since he was 7 weeks old.
I took him straight to the veterinary clinic when I got him when he was 7 weeks old before I took him home, to get him vaccinated.
The veterinary assistant told me that they didn’t vaccinate kittens till they were 8 weeks old. I told her that I had just gotten him and couldn’t take him home unless he was vaccinated because I had cats that had died from panleukopenia. They had caught it from stray cats that were diseased. Someone gave me a kitten after that and I named her Gloria, but in a couple days she got sick and died.
So the veterinary assistant explained this to the veterinarian and then she said, he’d make an exception in lieu of the circumstances.
When I had those cats that were sick, I called the veterinary clinic and said they were all sick and that I didn’t have a lot of money. The man said to bring the cats in.
It was after hours and this guy walked to the clinic in bitter cold and took the cats’ temperatures and vaccinated them and then didn’t charge a penny, just said to give him a ride home and not to tell anybody and to consider it a Christmas present. He said the cats had a temperature and were very sick and that nature would take its course, (meaning they would die.)
Another time I took a cat in to get her neutered. The assistant checked the cat and asked me if it was neutered before. I said, “No”. Then the vet came in and she said, “This cat looks like it was already neutered, but she says it wasn’t” Then the veterinarian examined the cat and said, “This cat is a female.” and that it had to be spayed,not neutered. I felt so dumb.
Stanley sounds like he was a very special cat. And don’t feel bad about the spayed versus neutered mix up, we’ve all had those funny vet moments!

I thought you wrote earlier that you’d found his orange fur in the woods??? You are right. Good case to show cats should NOT be outside. I learned the hard way too (by injuries, (and flea infestations in the house,etc,not death)to NOT let mine out.
Just ticks alone are reason to keep them in. I then would take them out on a leash and harness ONLY if I was out with them…until I ran in to answer the phone and my neighbors 2 year old yanked the cat’s tail and nearly broke it. The sprain was so bad it was swollen the size of my arm and he couldnt move it for days. Then the final straw was when the ones I let out on occasion started spraying in the house. One especially so.
Our vet had a vet-in-training – a WONDERFUL man, Dr. Ertz who now is somewhere in Oregon. He taught me how to retrain him AND told me this was happening BECAUSE I let him out. He said that when you do that they will take the entire yard to be their turf and when they are inside and see another animal on their turf and cannot run them off, they will resort to marking and anxious behavior as they try to police the perimeters of their existance indoors. So for a month I had to keep him in a cage, releasing him for only alloted periods of time in a supervised situation, increasing that daily and NO MORE OUT.
It worked! No more ovaban or anything else to try.
Too bad I learned this AFTER he had lymes disease that temporarily paralyzed him and left him severely arthritic at the young age of about 11.
Dr. Ertz again pointed out that even on my porch, and close to the house, a dog could have walked by and dropped a tick, so that was not wise.
Since then, all are indoors and surprisingly, even the strays I’d taken in that were upto 3yrs of age of living outside have made no attempt to try to escape. They know where they have it good!
All my cats have been a joy and a blessing. I can
see little TRENT is as well. I pray he had a merciful end if that is indeed what happened and if not that he will be home and indoors for good very soon. He looks like such a sweet fellow. My heart goes out to you all. For as many animals that there are in the world, there is no replacing them in the heart. Each is distinctively unique, like people, and each touches our lives in a special way. I’m truly sorry for your loss.
We actually did find some of Trent’s orange fur in the woods, which made the situation even harder to understand. Your story is such a great reminder of the risks outdoor cats can face, from ticks and injuries to territorial stress. We’re so glad your cats are now safe and happy indoors. And yes, every cat really is one of a kind. We’re hoping for the best for sweet Trent too.

You should join the “Missing Cat Assistance Group” on Yahoo. A week isn’t really a long time for a cat to be gone. If he got scared they can go into “feral mode” for 21 days or more. People give up way too soon in looking for their lost pets.
Our black kitty, Chloe, disappeared on October 1, 2004. We put up posters, hired a pet detective (he said someone picked her up and has her), talked to animal communicators, etc… We didn’t see our Chloe Critter until October 3, 2006! Someone has her and calls her “Shadow.” My boyfriend said if the people are taking care of her and she is loved…we shouldn’t force her to come home, because when she left we had her and 2 other kitties. Well, while searching for her, we started rescuing kitties at a local soccer park and fixing them, etc. We have 12 kitties now! Chloe wouldn’t be happy here. We also put up cat-fencing on our little 110 sq ft patio of our townhouse. I have 8 kitties in the garage are part of 12 I rescued last August/September (4 were adopted) and we need to get some of them adopted..or we will end up with 20 and no room for all of them! 🙂 Supposed to be doing TNR, but if they are tame, we fix them using our own money (and I don’t even have a job now) and adopt them or keep them.

Oh, also you should put out food and water. You might have to trap him to get him back inside and coyotes don’t eat cats as much as people think. We had a lady (Lana) that was in the group and her cat, Kitters, escaped from her truck in the middle of the Mojave Desert in September 2007. The cat was missing for 26 days in the desert and there were coyote dens everywhere. Turns out Kitters was hiding out in a 25-ft long tunnel in an outcropping of rocks. Lana hired a pet detective who came from Oklahoma to Arizona and she told her her cat had been killed by coyotes. There was no blood, no collar, nothing. This was a famous pet detective who had been on TV. We told Lana not to believe her. Lana kept looking and a cowboy in Kingman, AZ called and told her he just saw Kitters out on the rocks watching the traffic go by on Highway 395 (think it’s that highway). Lana finally found her and the vet said she wouldn’t have lasted 2 more days. Even though Lana was leaving food, Kitters wasn’t eating too much.
Oh, and here’s a link to Kat Albrecht’s “Missing Pet Partnership” website. She is the cream of the crop in knowing about Missing pets. Heck, we had a lady dress up in a cat suit in New Zealand for two weeks and hold a missing cat sign during the rush hour. Her cat “Darwin” had been missing 6 months. She finally got a lead from someone who saw the sign and got him back.
Keep strong and join Missing Cat Assistance. They can point you in the right direction in what to do. I bet Trent is out there! Good Luck and keep looking!

Cats can sometimes surprise us and find their way back to a familiar place. We’re keeping hope alive and continuing to look. Thank you so much for the kind words and encouragement.
Please don’t give up on Trent. Our cat Evie has been gone for some times a month at a time. I’ve prayed for her and she would return even when everyone else thought she was dead. However, one day she left and it has been a whole year now since I’ve seen her. I wasn’t sure how to handle it at first. It was tough because I didn’t know what happened to her. I cried a lot and I still do sometimes. I do miss her. It does help for me to realize that my furry friends are God’s creatures. I think that he has a purpose for animals like he does people. You may have an idea if you’ve ever seen animal miracles. I believe I will see her again in heaven if not on earth. If you are a Christian I would encourage you to pray. Though He doesn’t always answer prayers the way we want him to. God cares about the things in our lives whether great or small. I also want you to know… I’m praying for you and your kitty.
We’re not giving up on Trent, and stories like Evie’s are such a beautiful reminder to keep a little hope alive. We’re so sorry you’re still missing her, and we’re keeping Trent and everyone who loves him in our thoughts. Sometimes our furry friends have a way of surprising us when we least expect it.

FYI doe all readers ..Coyotes come out during the dat,too…I see them all the time during the day where I live…do not leave your pets outside…my cats have always been indoors only.

Trent was just beautiful Andrew! What a very sad loss. I know you believe that he has met his fate at the mercy of the local wildlife, but I still think these cases are worth reporting to the police. Sometimes, as happened here recently, some sicko out there in the community takes great pleasure in killing and skinning our beloved cats. Just rule this out as a possibility ok. The perpetrator WAS caught, but the penalty is a JOKE! Wish I could get my hands on him! Praying you have better luck with your present and future fur babies.

I know how heartbreaking it is when a pet goes missing. All sorts of things go through your mind as to what could have happened to it.
My cat, Marmie, went missing in October 2006.
Don’t give up hope of finding Trent, you never know – you might find him again. I hope you do.
He looks just like my cat Marmie.
I read of one cat who was rewunited with his owner after 16 years! I couldn’t believe it. Apparently, it was only TWO street away from his owners home.

We had a case of that happening where I live in the UK, but these sickos were not only torturing the cats but cutting them up and leaving the bodies strewn around. I felt sick to the stomach. I had lost a beautiful ginger kitten around that time. They were taken to court and got 2 years in prison. On their appeal, the judge must have been a cat lover because instead of letting them off or have a shorter sentence they ended up with 4 years!
At least, I felt there was a little justice for the cats.
It’s heartbreaking to hear about such cruelty toward innocent cats. We’re glad there was some justice for those involved, and we truly hope stories like this remind everyone to treat our animals with the kindness and respect they deserve.
