Good morning fellow animal advocates.

Today’s newsletter is very disturbing, as it involves
animal abuse.

And to make it even more unreal, a famous NFL quarterback is at
the center of the charges.

Here is a brief description of the story:
Michael Vick indicted for illegal dogfighting

The Associated Press

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick was indicted Tuesday by a federal
grand jury on charges related to illegal dogfighting.

Vick and three others are charged with competitive dogfighting, procuring
and training pit bulls for fighting and conducting the enterprise across
state lines.

The dogfighting operation was named “Bad Newz Kennels,” the indictment states,
and the dogs were housed, trained and fought at a Surry County, Va., property
owned by Vick.

The indictment alleges that the 27-year-old Vick and his co-defendants began
a grisly dogfighting operation in early 2001 in which dogs fought to the death
????? or close to it.

Losing dogs were sometimes killed by electrocution, drowning, hanging or gunshots.

If convicted, Vick and the others ????? Purnell A. Peace, Quanis L. Phillips and
Tony Taylor ????? could face up to six years in prison, $350,000 US in fines and
restitution.

P.S. So here is a man with all the things that mon**ey can buy, and he feels
that it is OK to have dogs fight, then kill them by drowning.

He has supposedly reached the “pinnacle” of society- yet he does this?

It once again goes to show how so many people just don’t value or respect
pets as members of our family..Mr Vick and friends see dogs as nothing
more than disposable trash. You use them to make mon**ey fighting, and if they
don’t fight well, you kill them.

I am glad that he has been indicted.

I hope that he gets some period of jail time.

I hope that prosecutors make a statement that this is NO LONGER acccepatable.

But we will see…

I will keep you all posted.

It’s Your Pet. Heal Them At Home!

Best Wishes,

  1. Hi – i don’t have much room so will get to the point. I have a farm in the USA and would like to perhaps get involved with veterinary care for abandoned animals. . . or have someone run an animal hospital here. Might you know anyone interested in doing that ? Please write me or call (number removed). Thank you

  2. If there is anything good about the Michael Vick story, it is that there is an emerging increased awareness about animal cruelty and animal fighting. However…

I think it is a sad commentary that we, as a culture, are using the Vick story to compare “What’s worse?” “What’s worse”, we ask, “carelessly fathering illegitimate children, or dogfighting?”. “Dogfighting or gambling?” “Dogfighting or rape?” “Dogfighting or racism?” “Dogfighting or hateful nationalism?” “Dogfighting or (fill in the blank)….?” The comparisons to dogfighting have been endless.

Dogfighting is one more piece of evidence our country is in need of a spiritual transformation (please note I said spiritual and not necessarily religious). Animals are sentient beings – they feel pain, and they suffer, just like we do. They are not more important, or less important than human beings, but like human beings, they are important, too.

Every major faith teaches its followers to be responsible stewards of animals and the Earth. Please help us get the word out that caring for animals, just like caring for people, is an important part of just being a decent person and citizen. If we make this a priority, there will be no more dogfighting horror stories, and no more pointless comparisons of evils. Let us all rise, together, to be better people than we are today, shall we?
