How Meal Toppers Can Improve Your Dog’s Food Quality
I’ve seen far too many animals diagnosed with cancer, including my own beloved pets. It’s heartbreaking when a pet is diagnosed, and unfortunately, for many, by the time cancer is detected, the treatment options are limited.
The Challenge of Cancer Treatment in Pets
When cancer is diagnosed, surgery may sometimes be an option. However, this was not the case with my last two dogs, as the cancer had already spread by the time we caught it. Chemotherapy is another common treatment, but unfortunately, it’s not a cure for most cancers in dogs. This is when we need to look beyond traditional treatments and consider alternatives.
The Promise of Cannabinoids in Cancer Treatment
Cannabinoids, specifically CBD, have been extensively studied and have shown promise in helping manage and even treat a variety of cancers, including Canine Lymphoma. The research is promising, and many pet owners are turning to cannabinoids as part of their pet’s cancer care.
But it’s not just CBD that offers benefits. Other cannabinoids, such as CBC and CBG, also provide valuable support. This is why a multi-cannabinoid supplement—one that includes not just CBD but also CBC and CBG—can be an effective option for managing cancer and improving your pet’s quality of life.

Prevention is Always the Best Option
While treatment is essential, prevention should always be the first line of defense. These nutrients work together to strengthen the immune system and protect your pet from various illnesses, including cancer.

Meal Toppers: A Quick Fix to Boost the Quality of Your Dog’s Food
One of the simplest ways to improve your dog’s diet is by adding nutritious meal toppers. These toppers are cost-effective and can provide a boost of essential vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. Here are some of my favorite meal toppers that can quickly enhance your dog’s kibble:
Sardine Fillets: Protein and Omega-3 Power
Sardine fillets are a fantastic source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, making them a great addition to your dog’s food. They’re not only highly nutritious but also very cost-effective. I recommend adding 1 sardine per cup of your dog’s food daily for optimal benefits.
Chicken Liver: A Nutrient-Rich Treat
Chicken liver is packed with protein, iron, zinc, copper, and vitamin A. It’s a flavorful addition that most dogs love (including my dog, Tula!). However, it’s important to note that liver should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s overall diet. I suggest feeding your dog half a chicken liver per cup of kibble, two to three times a week.
Eggs: A Budget-Friendly Source of Animal Protein
Eggs are an excellent, inexpensive source of high-quality animal protein. The egg white is considered one of the most complete, balanced proteins available and is a great source of vitamin D and B12. I recommend giving your dog 1 egg, 2-3 times per week, as an easy way to improve the nutritional quality of their diet.
Flax: A Fiber and Omega-3 Boost
Ground flax seeds are one of my favorite supplements to add to my dog’s kibble. They’re an excellent source of fiber, which can help with constipation, and they provide omega-3 fatty acids. Flax also contains lignans, which have been shown to help fight cancer, especially mammary carcinoma. The standard dosage is 1 teaspoon per cup of kibble.
Olive Oil: A Healthy Fat for Skin and Coat
Olive oil is a safe, inexpensive oil that offers a balanced ratio of omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids. It’s known for its anti-inflammatory properties, making it fantastic for your dog’s skin health. I suggest adding ½ teaspoon of olive oil per cup of kibble to provide extra hydration and improve skin condition.
Pumpkin: Fiber-Rich and Antioxidant-Packed
100% pure canned pumpkin is an excellent source of fiber and can be particularly helpful for dogs prone to constipation. It’s also rich in antioxidants like vitamin A, C, and E, which can enhance the nutritional value of your dog’s food. I recommend adding 1 teaspoon per cup of kibble, and this can be given daily if your dog tends to get constipated.
Yogurt: Probiotics for Digestive and Immune Health
Plain, unsweetened yogurt is a great source of probiotics, which support your dog’s intestinal health, immune function, and cognitive abilities. I suggest giving your dog 1 heaping teaspoon of yogurt (with 3% fat content) per cup of kibble.
P.S. It’s essential to regularly examine your dog or cat – do this once a week. If you feel a mass, monitor it and see your vet if you’re concerned. Improving the diet can help prevent cancer in the first place, so consider adding some of these meal toppers.
P.P.S. If your pet is in pain, whether it’s due to arthritis or cancer, I recommend considering medicinal cannabinoids. They’re very safe with minimal to no side effects and may be beneficial for your pet’s comfort.
