my yorkie has been having swelling to the inside ear, near the earcannel opening. she digs at it a lot, and cries. my vet prescribed several liquid meds, but nothing has cured it. I have used cortisone ointment. wondered if she should have antibiotics of some kind?? anything I use burns it and caused her to cry and dig her ear more. anyideas? pleas
My 120 pound pit has been allergy tested at a University based Vet school, with 95 % positive for alleging. He has the absolute worst lick granuloma on his right front leg (Seriously, the Vet with 40 yrs under his belt, said it was the worst he has seen) They prescribed massive doses of prednisone, Keflex. It was actually working until he started with overall fur loss and heavy respiration. Everything had to be stopped. I am searching for other options. Whatever that option is, it has to be oral. You might want to get your dog tested for food allergies. Dr. Dodds in California has a saliva test that is real easy to do through the mail. Then you will know what it causing it and you can stop feeding the offending food. My dog had the same problem and it cured all his skin problems. Anything you put on it is only temporary relief and probably will not cure it. I would also give him a grain free food until you get back the results. That will help a lot. Grains are not good for dogs and can cause lots of skin issues. To keep it from becoming infected make an ice tea dilution of betadine and water and wash it 2-3 times a day.
