Is it safe to give your dog Aspirin, or should you do as many veterinarians suggest and NEVER give this ‘toxic’ drug? Dr Jones shows you what is safe, what not to do, and whether or not you should have your dog on a veterinary anti-inflammatory.

ASA (Aspirin Dose for Dogs) 325mg, uncoated ASA/50lbs twice daily. Discuss with your veterinarian. Do not give if on other anti-inflammatories ( ie Prednisone, Rimadyl etc..), or if compromised organ function. Never give to Cats.

Some of the most common side effects of NSAIDs in animals reported to FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine are:

Vomiting;
Decreased to no appetite;
Decreased activity level; and
Diarrhea.
Stomach and intestinal ulcers
Stomach and intestinal perforations (holes in the wall of the stomach or intestines)
Kidney failure
Liver failure
Death.
