So, you may have heard—or maybe not—but our Facebook page got hacked. The page is “supposedly” back now, but every single one of our 528,000 followers, built over years of hard work, is gone.
Here’s the abbreviated story.
How It Happened
About four weeks ago, we were contacted to do a Facebook Live with Katie Couric, the former Today Show anchor. She’s very active in animal rescue, has multiple pets, and has hosted pet influencers before.
It seemed legit.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t. The hackers gained illegal access to my page by claiming they were part of Katie Couric’s tech team, supposedly helping set up the Livestream.
They gained full access. Ten days later, Facebook removed our page at www.facebook.com/veterinarysecrets—and with it, all 528,000 followers.
Aftermath
After hours of dealing with Meta Support—literally talking to 17 different people—and submitting every document they asked for, they “gave the page back.”
But here’s the kicker: all the followers are gone.
One support agent said it’s normal to lose some followers after a hack—but losing 528,000? Unlikely.
Apparently, this has happened to other influencers, and many were able to restore their followers. Not us… yet.
If you happen to know anyone at Facebook who could help, I would be extremely grateful. Some people are more helpful than others, as you can imagine.
