Scratching Ear with Ear Mites? Great New Remedy!
If your cat or dog has black debris in their ears, is scratching their ears, they may have ear mites. This new remedy is very effective and safe for dog or cat ear mite ear infections.
The average life cycle of an ear mite is 21 days, so it’s important to treat over that amount of time to kill all of the mites.
The treatment for this is only two ingredients:
1. Neem Oil – It has been used for thousands of years, and it has insecticidal and anti-inflammatory components. It has been studied in the use of ear mites, and proven to be very effective!
Dosage: 1 ml, (1 dropperful)
2. Castor Oil – Thick and viscous, it can suffocate the ear mites, and it can be a great anti-inflammatory.
Dosage: 2 tsp (10mls)
Mix the castor oil and neem oil (you can keep it at room temperature, warm it up slightly if it cools down). I use a 1cc syringe for drops (you can pick this up at any pharmacy) Here is how to give this mixture to your pet:
- Position your pet in a comfortable seated position
- Flip their ear flap up
- Add 3-5 drops with the syringe
- Rub the base of the ear well
- Clean up the outer ear area with a cotton swab or cloth
Do this twice daily for 7 days, stop for 7 days. Then repeat the process.

Used castor oil 2x/day for 3 weeks. Did not stop for week 2 because funk kept emerging. Did not work, just have a disgruntled, greasy cat. ? “That one monthly topical” works for almost 2 weeks on my guy, not 4. It is packaged in a solvent (smells like alcohol), so it’s actually systemic because it absorbs. How else would it treat gut worms? (hypothetical q) Plus my cat pukes like clockwork after each application, which is why I tried this.
There was a LOT of funk at the outset, and I use a “pet ear cleaner”. Learned there is a pet version of a human product called Debrox, that works better than any ear flush. Better than just oil as well.
(fine print: last year was a rough one for his health – 7 ‘neck leision’ dissolving teeth, so his immune & ears were probably in a pretty bad state. No ‘dental’ seems to prevent those.)
