Topical Arthritis Control
—————————

One of the most common dog and cat health problems is arthritis.

Normal joint wear and tear leads to this- as our pets age, they develop this.

It can affect most joints; the hips, knees and lower back is most common.

Topical treatment for sudden flare ups is a great idea, this just isn’t being used often yet in veterinary medicine.

Capsaicin
—————————————–

Capsaicin is the active ingredient in chili peppers that makes them hot.

Capsaicin is used in medicated creams and lotions to relieve muscle or joint pain.

Capsaicin used on the body causes a sensation of heat that activates certain nerve cells.

It works by reducing the amount of substance P, a chemical that acts as a pain messenger in the body.

It can be used topically for local painful joints for both dogs and cats.

The next time your dog or cat has a local joint flare up, such as a sore knee, consider this.

You can get it OTC at most pharmacies.

Best Wishes,

  1. I understand that Capsaicin can cause intense burning on skin. Do you still recommend this as a topical for dogs?
I am a canine massage therapist and am trying to define what arthritic treatments – I prefer holistic – are actually effective. I have not had luck with CBD oils which do make dogs sleepy however I haven’t witnessed any benefit to mobility and/or arthritic conditions.
    I am looking for answers…
    thank you
