Caught a Wave and Some Bruises! 5 Awesome Natural Remedies to Heal Wounds Faster

I had the bright idea to go surfing in Hawaii with my brother Michael – I mean, what could go wrong, right?

Well, apparently, quite a few things could. ?

Despite the mishaps, both Michael and I found ourselves in need of some serious pain relief. And that’s when I realized there’s one supplement that works wonders not only for humans but also for pets.

CBD: The Ultimate Holistic Pain Relief

The supplement I’m talking about is Cannabidiol (CBD) – the most effective holistic painkiller that is safe for both dogs and cats (and injured old guys like me who try surfing!).

CBD has been a game-changer when it comes to managing pain, inflammation, and stress, and I encourage you to have some on hand for emergencies.

CBD for Your Pets

One of my best-selling products is Dr. Jones’ ULTIMATE CBD for Dogs and Cats, and it’s a perfect remedy for managing pain, anxiety, and inflammation in our furry companions.

Dr. Jones’ Ultimate CBD Formula is a Full Spectrum CBD supplement in 100% Organic Cold Pressed Hemp Oil. The supplement is a liquid, with 3 sizes available (all are the same concentration, just different size bottles): 300mg (5ml, 0.17 fl oz), 900mg (15ml, 0.5 fl oz) and 1800mg (30ml, 1 fl oz).

So, whether you’re dealing with a surfing injury like me or caring for a pet with discomfort, CBD is a great option to have in your wellness toolkit!

Stay prepared and take care of yourself and your pets with the power of CBD!

5 Topical Home Remedies to Speed Wound Healing

As a veterinarian, I understand how important it is to help our pets heal quickly from wounds. In this article, I’ll share five effective topical home remedies that can speed up your pet’s wound healing process.

1. Aloe Vera: The Ideal Healing Solution

Aloe Vera is widely recognized for its incredible healing properties. It is anti-inflammatory, increases immune activity, has anti-bacterial and anti-viral effects, and decreases histamine activity. Due to these properties, Aloe Vera significantly accelerates wound healing. According to a review study from the NIH, Aloe Vera is considered the ideal dressing for wounds, making it a go-to remedy for skin healing.

2. Vaseline: The Classic Protective Barrier

Vaseline, the tried-and-true old veterinary remedy, is still effective today. It forms a protective barrier over the wound, helping to keep moisture in and promote healing. This classic ointment is often found in many pharmacy “wound healing" creams, thanks to its ability to protect the skin and keep it hydrated.

3. Castor Oil: A Natural Healer

Castor oil, derived from the Castor bean, is another excellent natural remedy for wound healing. It creates a protective barrier while being anti-inflammatory, making it beneficial for various types of wounds. Castor oil is a great option for those seeking a natural, yet effective healing solution.

4. Beeswax and Coconut Oil: A Healing Blend

When combined, beeswax and coconut oil create a potent blend that works wonders for wound healing. Coconut oil is known for its anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and skin-healing properties. It enhances collagen crosslinking (important for scar tissue formation) and improves antioxidant enzyme activity, promoting faster healing. Beeswax adds an extra layer of protection and contributes to the antimicrobial qualities of the mixture.

This remedy is safe for pets, even if they lick it, making it a great option for pets prone to licking their wounds.

How to Make and Use:

  1. Melt 2 tablespoons of coconut oil with 1 teaspoon of beeswax in a small pot over medium heat (about 5 minutes).
  2. Once melted, pour the mixture into a small jar and refrigerate it for 20 minutes to cool.
  3. Once cooled, apply the mixture topically to your pet’s wound or irritated skin.
  4. Use twice a day for 7-10 days or as needed for best results.

5. CBD: The Modern Healing Agent

Topical cannabidiol (CBD) has been shown to help wounds heal faster by reducing inflammation, promoting cell growth, and reducing the production of reactive oxygen species—free radicals that can slow down the healing process.

How CBD Helps:

  • Anti-inflammatory: CBD can reduce inflammation and itching, making the healing process more comfortable for your pet.
  • Cell Growth: CBD promotes cell proliferation and migration, which are essential for proper wound healing.
  • Reactive Oxygen Species: CBD reduces the production of reactive oxygen species, helping wounds heal more effectively.

Studies in animals have shown that cannabinoids like CBD can improve the healing of chronic and postsurgical wounds, making it a promising option for treating your pet’s wounds.

Heal Your Pet at Home!

With these five effective topical remedies, you can help your pet heal faster and more comfortably. Remember, proper wound care is essential, and using natural remedies like Aloe Vera, Vaseline, Castor Oil, Beeswax and Coconut Oil, and CBD can significantly aid in the healing process.

P.S. We’re both doing better now! My wound has markedly improved with Aloe Vera, which I’ve been applying twice daily—though applying it four times a day would be even better. Michael’s knee has improved as well, thanks to the decision not to surf again!

P.P.S. About our awesome pain-killing CBD: If we had it on hand, we would have definitely used it. I would have applied it topically and taken it orally as well. Our CBD is highly concentrated, so even small dogs and cats only need one drop, which makes it much easier to administer than a full syringe.
