Re: Cat found dead, hanging in yard

Here is one very disturbing story that has happened close to where
I am currently staying.
It is about animal cruelty- and it shows yet again how are pets can
be subjected to animal cruelty anywhere.
The RCMP are investigating after a dead cat was found hanging
from a fence in a backyard in Cole Harbour.
The homeowners spotted the animal hanging with a rope around
its neck Monday morning, Cpl. Joe Taplin said Tuesday.
“I know the homeowners were quite upset, and once we located the
owners of the cat, it was a very traumatic event for them, too,” he
told CBC News.
Taplin said investigators believe the cat was killed Sunday night or
early Monday.
Officials with the Nova Scotia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty
to Animals are also investigating.
SPCA spokeswoman Judith Gass said she’s not surprised that police
suspect youths are responsible for hanging the cat.
“Those are the people who seem to be taking control of the streets
at night,” she said, “and those are the types of crimes that are often
out there committed by more than one person.”
Gass said everyone should be concerned because people who are violent
towards animals are often violent with people later.

P.S. Animal cruelty laws are still very lax here in Canada,
as there are throughout most of the U.S. I’ll keep you updated
on this story as it progresses.
