Meal Recipes for Dogs and Cats with Cancer

You are what you eat… and with Cancer that can be how the saying goes.

Is that really a thing for our dogs and cats?

Turns out yes, it certainly is!

If you happen to feed ‘conventional pet food’ (as even I do), there are things that you can add to your pet’s diet to dramatically improve the quality.

Such as adding a complete supplement with ingredients that support the skin, the joints, the organs, the intestinal tract, and the immune system.

Here is an easy way to do that and get up to 37% OFF your first order:

Dr Jones’ ULTIMATE Canine Health Formula

Ultimate Canine is a powder, given daily, that you can mix with your dog’s food or with a treat. It is Non-GMO and gluten free, and contains no wheat, corn, soy, or any artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives.

Dr Jones’ Homemade Cancer Diets for Dogs and Cats

Yes, there is the concern of the diet not being nutritionally ‘balanced’, yet most homemade diets are FAR BETTER than most kibble from a health point of view, even if they are not 100% balanced.

In feeding a cancer diet, we are focusing on the point that:

* Cancer cells thrive on Carbohydrates/Simple Sugars, so we are ELIMINATING the CARBOHYDRATES.

KEY POINTS for Homemade Dog Cancer Diets

  • Focus on the Protein with balanced amino acid profiles (lean beef, chicken, turkey and egg). These are HIGH protein, HIGH fat diets
  • Additional ‘balanced’ fat is necessary, a good nutritious fat I prefer for Cancer is Coconut oil
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acid Supplement should be added in the form of Krill, Fish or Flax oil. Elevated amounts for cancer. Krill is the most nutrient dense and beneficial of all the products., with a great EPA/DHA fatty acid profile, contains the antioxidant Astaxanthin, and being high in Vitamin D.
  • Calcium is required as bones are not being consumed. I prefer Egg Shells : dried, roasted in the oven for 10 mins, then ground with a coffee grinder. You can also use OTC calcium carbonate, etc.
  • Vitamins: Vitamin D is needed, but is in the egg yolks and red meat as well as being in moderate levels in the Krill or Fish oil. Vitamin E is in the Krill, Sunflower Oil and Coconut Oil
  • Minerals: Iron is in the animal protein and spinach/kale, Zinc is in the red meat and flax seeds, Copper is in the spinach, Iodine is in the Egg Yolks,
  • Fiber: the veggies, and the best source in my opinion (also the healthiest) is the ground flax.

Ground Turkey Cancer Diet for Dogs for a 50lb dog

  • Ground Lean Turkey- 2lbs, cooked in pan/pot
  • Carrots, ½ cup- steamed
  • Eggs- cooked, 2, great protein source, and egg yolks rich in Vitamin E, Iodine, scrambled with the Turkey
  • Coconut Oil, additional Vitamin E, source of MCT oil, 2 tablespoons (2 tbspn/1lb of animal protein), added after cooking
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acid, ie Krill at dose of 500mg/10 lbs of body weight
  • Calcium Supplement – Ground Egg Shell in coffee grinder, ½ tspn (1000mg), can also add Calcium Tablets (ie Tums, 2 tablets are 1000mg)
  • Adult multivitamin-mineral supplement – 1 tablet, or 1 scoop of Ultimate Canine

KEY POINTS for Homemade Cat Food Cancer Diets

For cats, Do NOT feed carbohydrates, minimal to NO kibble, focusing on animal protein, healthy fat, additional calcium, and added amino acid taurine.

  • Focus on the Protein with balanced amino acid profiles that best suit cats: chicken, turkey and duck
  • NO CARBOHYDRATES.
  • Additional ‘balanced’ fat, that is a source of MCT oil; for cancer I prefer coconut oil.
  • Omega 3 Fatty Acid Supplement should be added in the form of Krill, Fish oil.
  • Calcium is required as bones are not being consumed. I prefer Egg Shells : dried, roasted in the oven for 10 mins, then ground with a coffee grinder. You can also use OTC calcium carbonate.
  • Vitamins: Vitamin D is needed, but is in the egg yolks, as well as being in high levels in the Krill or Fish oil. Vitamin E is in the Coconut Oil
  • Minerals: Iron is in the animal protein, Zinc is in the meat and flax seeds, Taurine and Calcium are added.
  • Fiber: the canned pumpkin and if needed ground flax are good options.
  • Taurine is an essential amino acid that MUST be added to any home recipe for cats.

  • Iodinated salt 1/4 tsp
  • Calcium carbonate without vitamin D (regular Tums) 1000mg(2tabs), or ½ teaspoon of ground eggshell
  • Adult multivitamin-mineral supplement – 1/4 tablet, or 1 scoop of Ultimate Feline
  • Taurine powder (essential for cats) 1/4 tsp (or 1 – 500 mg tablet)

Best Wishes,

Dr Andrew

P.S. Do NOT get so concerned about the ‘need’ for the diet to be so called ‘nutritionally balanced’. Think about how you eat, and apply that simple logic to feeding your pets.

In helping a dog or cat with cancer, there are a LARGE number of things to consider, BUT if you can catch it early, and modify the diet, you can at least slow it down.

Nothing really good comes from feeding just conventional food (especially kibble!).

BUT above all else, ensure that your dog/cat is eating, so feed them WHAT they will eat. I also find that adding in Ultimate Canine/Ultimate Feline can help being an appetite stimulant for some pets.

  1. Oops, I sent too soon. She also has IBD; so we add digestive enzymes, antiinflamatory, and Miralax to her food daily as well. Currently eating Fancy Feast Classic Pate as it is low carb. Thanks!

  2. Dr. Jones thank you so much for your helpful videos and information on how to help cats with cancer!! Before my two girl cats with cancer ended up passing away last year, I gave them CBD, Panacur, curcumin, krill oil, olive leaf extract, quercetin, MCT oil, DMSO for pain, and there’s probably more I’m forgetting.

My elder girl was diagnosed with only a few weeks to a month to live, but she ended up being her normal self for about 8-9 months. My younger girl was misdiagnosed at first as something mild/not cancer, and so we didn’t find out till a few days before she passed away, but I gave her CBD and other things to help.

  3. On Dr. Andrews Ground Turkey Cancer Diet for a 10-pound cat, do we add fiber? If we add flaxseed, how much, and is it ground?
