For example, take the Chinese medicinal herb yunnan baiyao. It’s now being widely used, even by conventional medicine, for conditions like bleeding in dogs with hemangiosarcoma (a tumor affecting red blood cells). yunnan baiyao has been shown to work really well in treating spontaneous hemorrhages, a major side effect of the condition. Yet, Big Pharma continues to dismiss this and other natural remedies. yunnan baiyao contains potato starch as one of its main ingredients—yes, potato starch—and this ingredient has shown tremendous beneficial effects, yet Big Pharma ignores its success.

Why does Big Pharma downplay these remedies? Well, it comes down to money. For example, there are thousands of scientific studies and case reports proving the effectiveness of natural products like honey. However, nettle can’t be patented, which means no big pharmaceutical company can profit from it in the same way they can from a drug like Bravecto. What do they do? They downplay nettle’s effectiveness and question its safety. But in reality, nettle is very safe, and it works wonders for allergies.

The truth is, big pharmaceutical companies can’t profit from natural remedies because they can’t patent them. That’s why they do everything they can to discredit these alternatives, even though they’ve been used effectively for centuries.

Let’s talk about the costs associated with developing new drugs. Big Pharma often claims that it costs $2 to $3 billion to develop a new drug. However, when you break down the numbers, in many cases, the cost is much lower—around $100 million to $200 million. Additionally, much of the research that funds new drugs comes from public institutions and government funding. So, in a sense, you’re paying twice: once through taxes that fund public research, and again when you buy the drug at a pharmacy at inflated prices.
