Anti-viral Oil for COVID, Dogs and Cats
A new study in the Philippines has shown that coconut oil has been very beneficial for patients with COVID-19. It is thought that the anti-viral properties in coconut are responsible for this.
60 patients with Covid-19 were tested, 30 were given coconut oil and 30 were not. They had colds, cough, body ache, fever and other common symptoms of Covid-19. Two days after using the coconut oil, patients started seeing symptoms decreasing. Less coughing, lower fevers, and within weeks they had little to no symptoms.
Lead researchers found that within coconut oil there is a compound called Lauric Acid, which helps degrade virus envelopes and inhibits more cell growth. They’re not saying it’s a magical cure, but as a supplement to help people with the disease.
Patients were taking 0.5 ml/kg of bodyweight to start, and after 3-4 days, they would double the amount. If your dog has a viral infection, coconut oil may be helpful for this (i.e. some causes of Kennel Cough) and viral infections in cats (i.e. the Cat Flu).
I would recommend using a similar dosage to the patients, for example Tula, a 20lb dog would receive a couple of teaspoons a day.
It may help your pet get through a viral infection a bit easier.
