Dolphin slaughter: Japanese Are Now Killing 200 Defenseless Animals
The Japanese are now killing more than 200 defenseless animals- so called ‘fisherman’ trapped over 200 dolphins in Japan’s Taiji Cove.
The dolphins have been starved for 3 days.
Dolphins are considered some of the more intelligent beings on our planet, yet the Japanese Government condones the slaughter.
Louie Psihoyos, director of “The Cove,” the Oscar-winning documentary that followed a prior hunt with hidden cameras, had this to say:
“It’s morally reprehensible on almost every level”
These animals have emotions, they are sensitive, they display behaviors more typical of human interactions. There are deep bonds with their offspring, and some may be together for life.
The meat is also quite toxic, with mercury levels some 2000 times more than is deemed safe for human consumption.
The Japanese government has defended the controversial annual dolphin hunt as international criticism has escalated.
The fishermen in Taiji say the hunt is part of their village tradition and call foreign critics who eat other kinds of meat hypocritical.

The dolphins are dragged up onto the beach and slaughtered.
This practice is very cruel and dolphins can take up to 30 minutes to die by suffocation or drowning.
I applaud what Caroline Kennedy, the US Ambassador had to say:
“Deeply concerned by inhumaneness of drive hunt dolphin killing.” She said the US government opposed such fishing.
This is wrong on so many levels, it should be made illegal at an international level, and the hunting, and capture of dolphins for food and entertainment should be banned.

disgusting and savage
Horrible, but dolphins are not the only species being cruelly decimated. Just as horrible are the wolf hunts in North America. Just as savage, inhumane and unnecessary. Please sign Wolf and Wildlife’s petition:

Also intelligence should not be a factor when considering the injustice and savage cruelty when someone is murdered.
Absolutely, every animal deserves compassion and respect. We believe cruelty is cruelty, whether it involves dolphins, wolves, or any other sentient being. Intelligence may make us notice their suffering more, but kindness should extend to all creatures. Thanks for speaking up for animals and reminding us that protecting wildlife matters.

Barbaric and unnecesary
There are always better, more compassionate ways forward when it comes to how we treat the amazing creatures we share this planet with.
To Japanese people need to be tought another lesson. The cruelty of the Japanese is still unmatched in the world.
At the same time, it is important to remember that this is about a specific practice and those responsible, not an entire group of people. Many Japanese people care deeply about animals and are also working to protect wildlife. Compassion is the lesson we all need, because kindness to animals is something that brings us together.

We agree, dolphins are incredibly intelligent, social beings and it is heartbreaking to see any animal suffer. Compassion and respect for animals matter, and we hope to see more humane choices and protections for these amazing creatures in the future.
I thought people were suppose to be intelligent. How intelligent is it to keep doing cruel and stupid things just because “we have always done them”. When it is wrong, how long do we continue the practice until we realize it. Maybe the dolphins are the more thoughtful species.

As we learn more about the emotions, intelligence, and social bonds of animals, we can make kinder choices.
