Dog Food Recall 2025: Plastic Found in Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls

Plastic Found in Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Frozen Dog Food

Stay informed.
There is a new recall involving plastic chunks being found in dog food, and this is definitely not something you want your pet to consume. Sadly, there are many things in commercial pet food that can lead to illness, but this one is serious enough to get immediate attention.

If your pet ever ingests something toxic, the liver often takes the biggest hit. Nutrients such as Milk Thistle, SAMe and Dandelion Root can be incredibly helpful for liver support. You can find all three in my Ultimate Liver Support Formula for dogs and cats.

What Happened in This Recall?

Pet owners across 14 states are being urged to stop feeding a popular frozen raw dog food after customers discovered plastic fragments mixed into the product.

The FDA has confirmed that the contaminated product is:

  • Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Beef Recipe

  • Packaged in 16 ounce tubes

  • Best By Dates: 12/25/2026

  • UPC: 072705135004

  • Total affected: 300 cases

While there have been no reported injuries or illnesses yet, the FDA is warning pet parents to throw the product away immediately, monitor their dogs closely, and contact a veterinarian if their pet shows any of these symptoms:

  • vomiting

  • loss of appetite

  • lethargy

  • stomach discomfort

Plastic ingestion can lead to gastrointestinal upset, choking or in serious cases, intestinal obstruction.

Where Was the Recalled Food Sold?

According to the FDA notice, the affected BeefiBowls products were distributed through independent pet stores in:

  • Alaska

  • Washington

  • Oregon

  • California

  • Nevada

  • Arizona

  • Colorado

  • Texas

  • Louisiana

  • Mississippi

  • Arkansas

  • Oklahoma

  • Illinois

  • Wisconsin

Plus Ontario, Canada.

The parent company, Fromm Family Foods, has acknowledged the error and says they have added new safety steps to prevent this from happening again. No other products are included in the recall.

Why This Matters for Your Pet’s Long Term Health

The FDA loves to warn people about the risks of raw, frozen, freeze dried and unprocessed pet food. Their notice includes another reminder that pet parents should “avoid” raw diets.

Sure. But what about the toxins formed in highly processed kibble?

Dry food and heavily cooked diets contain Advanced Glycation End Products, also known as AGEs. These are harmful compounds created during high heat processing. They are linked to:

  • chronic inflammation

  • oxidative stress

  • diabetes

  • kidney and liver disease

  • accelerated aging

Raw or fresh diets contain far lower AGE levels.

Your dog is unlikely to die from salmonella in raw food, but many dogs eating heavily processed diets develop cancer far too young. I see this all the time.

So no, I do not agree with the FDA’s suggestion to avoid raw diets altogether.
