3 NEW Remedies for Dog Diarrhea

Welcome to a special edition of Veterinary Secrets. Today, we’re diving into three innovative remedies for managing diarrhea in dogs. Let’s explore these solutions, which are not only effective but also edible, making them a pleasant treatment option for your canine friend.

1. Flaxseed Oil for Diarrhea and Constipation

The focus is on flax seeds, a versatile remedy for both diarrhea and constipation. Ground flax seeds produce flax oil, which has shown promising results in studies involving animals with chronic diarrhea, often linked to conditions like inflammatory bowel disease or food sensitivities. Flax oil can help reduce gut inflammation, which in turn minimizes fluid accumulation in the intestines that causes diarrhea. For a dog like Pippy, the recommended dosage is approximately one tablespoon per day. This simple and inexpensive treatment not only addresses gastrointestinal issues but also contributes to overall health.

2. Colostrum: Nature’s First Defense

Colostrum, often referred to as “mother’s first milk." Colostrum is rich in antibodies and has numerous medicinal properties, including the ability to protect and repair the intestinal tract. For an average-sized dog, about 100 milligrams per 10 pounds of body weight, administered twice daily, is advisable. This treatment can span from 7 to 14 days depending on the severity and response.

3. Mint Oil: A Natural Solution for Inflammatory Bowel Disease

A significant study highlighted mint’s effectiveness in treating inflammatory bowel disease, sometimes outperforming conventional medications. To prepare a remedy, mint leaves are ground and pressed under high pressure with CO2 to extract mint oil. For treatment, a 2% dilution of mint oil in flax oil is recommended. The mixture should contain about 10 drops of mint oil per 30 milliliters of flax oil, creating a potent yet pleasant-smelling treatment option.
